69. 31/12/03 Assistance 21.00hrs A56 near Winfield.  Blackburn police paged us to assist with 100 cars stuck in snow on the A56 Winfield, including a report of a woman in labour in one of these cars. This job was passed onto our neighbouring Team Rossendale and our team remained on standby to assist if necessary. 4 Man hrs

68. 31/12/03 Assistance 20.58hrs Snow cover for Lancs Ambulance.  While getting ready to party we were paged by Lancashire Ambulance to support them during the snow over new years eve, 4 team members manned 2  vehicles during this time.  The rest of the team remained ever alert should the call come!  Well the party could not stop could it? 12 Man hrs

67. 29/12/03 Assistance 14.45hrs Kilnshaw Chimney, Red Screes.  While descending from Red Screes, a team member came across a male and a dog who appeared crag fast in Kilnshaw Chimney, the Gully was iced over. It appeared the dog had fallen into the Gully and the owner had climbed down.  Langdale/Ambleside MRT had been called by a member of the dog owners party who had descended the mountain. Our team member abseiled into the gully and both owner & dog. Langdale team arrived on scene approx 15.10hrs and took charge of the incident, with rigging they raised the owner and dog unharmed but cold. 2 Man hrs

66. 21/12/03 Advice 12.46 hrs Rivington Barn, Chorley Area. The Team was paged by Lancashire Ambulance Incident Support Desk to attend an incident at Rivington Barn, Rivington. As this is not the Teams normal area of operation the call was passed to our neighbouring Team, Bolton MRT, immediately. 0.25 Man hrs

65. 16/12/03 Search 01.16 hrs Clayton Brook, Bamber Bridge .  The team were paged by Lancashire Police to search urgently for a vulnerable 63 year old male dressed only in pyjamas, temperature was - 4 degrees C.  The man was located at 04.10  hrs  with mild hypothermia and evacuated to hospital.  SARDA & the Police assisted on this search.  45 Man hrs

64. 14/12/03 Search 10.35 hrs Eccleston, Chorley.  the team were paged by Lancashire Police to search for a missing suicidal male, the team, with the help of SARDA located the man, who was deceased, & evacuated him to the ambulance.  25 Man hrs

63.  12/12/03 Spot Pick Up 13.07 hrs, Denham Quarry, Brinscall.  The team were called to a fallen bird watcher, sadly the lady was fatally injured.  6 Man hrs

62. 16/11/03 Spot Pick Up 16.05 hrs Nicky Nook, Scorton . The team where paged direct from Lancashire Ambulance to a lady with a broken leg on Nicky Nook.  A Lancashire ambulance crew where assisted to the casualties location who administered first aid.  The team then evacuated the lady to the Police Helicopter on the summit.  She was then transferred to Preston Hospital. 19 Man hrs

61. 20/10/03 Search 19.34 hrs Bolton by Bowland, Gisburn Forest of Bowland.  Request from the Police to search for a missing vulnerable male.  The team were stood down while responding as the man was found safe.  3 Man hrs

60.  18/10/03 Spot Pick Up 17.35 hrs Saddle Fell Forest of Bowland.  Report from the Police that a couple of fell walkers were stuck in a bog.  The Fire Brigade Rope Rescue Unit were also called to assist, both teams were stood down when the Police helicopter airlifted them uninjured off the fell.  3 Man hrs.

59. 12/10/03 Search 12.36 hrs Broughton Area. Search for missing male, in open farm land in the Broughton area of Preston. There was Police concern for the well being of this person hence the search. The Search was concluded when the missing person turned up safe and well. 30 Man hrs.

58. 02/10/03 Search 08.56 hrs Marton Mere, Blackpool. Search for missing male (21), in the Marton Mere nature reserve area. There was Police concern for the well being of this person hence the search. Mounted Police were also in assistance, the search was stood down pending further enquires. 60 Man hrs.

57. 28/09/03 Safety Cover 10.00 - 16.00 hrs Yorkshire Dales.  Our annual safety cover for the 3 Peaks Cyclo Cross, great weather & the usual fractured collar bones & grazes. The 43rd running of the race. 180 Man hrs.

56. 25/09/03 Search 19.00 hrs Ringstone, North Lancashire. Request from Lancashire Police to search woodland & open farmland for a missing lady.  We were stood down on arrival as she had turned up safe & well.  20 Man hrs.

55. 20/09/03 Search 16.05 hrs Rivington Reservoir. A search was Initiated by Lancashire Police Southern Division for a missing female (34), who was possibly going to self harm. The rough location given was 'Headless Cross' at the South Western corner of Rivington Reservoir. While a basic plan was being looked into she was located by a police patrol in roughly the same area described. 0.25 Man hrs

54. 14/09/03 Search 11.00 hrs Coniston, Cumbria.  Search Dog Bracken & handler, along with another BPMRT Member were on an SARDA assessment weekend at Coniston, when they were asked by the Police to search for a missing person.  The lady turned up safe in Kendal.

53. 14/09/03 Safety Cover  08.00 hrs West Pennine Moors.  The team gave safety cover to the Long Distance Walkers Association.  No incidents happily but lots of warm sun shine.  28 Man hrs.

52. 02/09/03  Spot Pick Up 18.34 hrs Kemple End, Longridge Fell.  The Team was paged by Lancashire Ambulance Service to evacuate an injured mountain biker suspected of having a  spinal injury. Once the casualty had been assessed by the Team Doctor, she was evacuated to the waiting Ambulance. 54 Man hrs.

51. 24/08/03 Spot Pick Up 12.34 hrs River Ribble, Grimsagh.  While providing communications / safety cover for the annual River Ribble Raft Race the Team was requested by Lancashire Ambulance Service to evacuate a competitor suspected of having a neck & spinal injury. A team member was on scene within 2 mins, the rest of the team, while responding to the incident were stood down as the Air Ambulance was able to gain access to the patient and assist our team member with the incident. (2 Man hrs) Other competitors were treated for minor injuries.

50. 24/08/03 Search 03.38 hrs. Carnforth, North Lancashire. Team requested by Lancashire Police to search for a missing male in the Carnforth area. As Incident Controllers were gathering information and preparing to page the team the person turned up safe and well. 1 Man hr

49. 19/08/03 Search. 05.10 hrs. Hambleton, North Lancashire. Rescue Team called by the Police to search farmland, woods & coastal edges for a vulnerable male.  We were assisted by the Police Support Team, Police helicopter, SARDA (Rossendale) & local Coastguard Search Teams.  The search was stood down at 14.04 as the Police received information on the mans location. 198 Man hrs

48. 03/08/03 Search Dartmoor.  Search Dog Bracken & Handler assisted Dartmoor Rescue Group in search for missing vulnerable male in the Bovey Tracey area of Dartmoor.  4 hrs

47. 02/08/03 Safety Cover Borrowdale Fell Race.  The team dealt with a number of minor incidents both on & off the fell. 176 Man hrs

46. 21/07/03 RTA 08.45 hrs. Samlesbury. Team vehicle travelling to a flag day, arrived on scene of a motorcycle crash minutes after the accident and provided first aid, then using his team radio requested back up from Lancashire Ambulance. Passenger received lower leg injuries. 0.25 Man hrs

45. 14/07/03 Evacuation  21.15 hrs Forest of Bowland.  Call from passer by & Police to assist with a seriously injured motorcyclist who had crashed off the road & into a gully some 500m from our H.Q, the team administed basic life support for 25 mins until the Ambulance crews, Fire Service & Police helicopter arrived to evacuate. 2 Man hrs.

44. 09/07/03 Spot Pick Up 20.45 hrs Wray. Assist Lancashire Ambulance with a spot pick up of a fallen trail rider on the Salter Fell Track. One land rover was sent to the Wray end, the other to the Slaidburn end of the track. The casualty was located near the Wray end and evacuated, with the help of a local farmer and his quad bike, to the waiting ambulance. The team's doctor then checked him out and found him to have a dislocated shoulder. He was then taken to hospital in a county ambulance. 45 Man hrs.

43. 08/07/03 RTA 09.45 hrs Broughton. While driving up the M6 near Broughton a team member came across an RTA involving one car and two passengers. The driver had severe scalp lacerations. Using his team radio he called Lancashire Ambulance control room & requested ambulance backup. He then dealt with the injuries until the ambulance arrived. 0.5 Man hrs

42.  04/07/03 Search 00.45 hrs Nether Kellet, North Lancashire.  The team were called to search farmland & woods for a missing 78 year old man.  The Police stood the team down at 06.55 hrs pending new information.  Lancashire Police Air Support Unit & Search Dog Bracken & handler were also involved. The body was found after Bracken had indicated the location.  140 Man hrs.

The Team received a Divisional Commendation from Lancashire Constabulary, Northern Division for our involvement in this incident.

41. 28/06/03 Spot Pick Up 20.21 hrs Balderstone. The Team was paged by Lancashire Ambulance to help with a spot pick up of a Unconscious Diabetic fisherman on a river bank. The team carried the casualty to the waiting county ambulance. 12 Man hrs.

40. 26/06/03 Advice 20:00 hrs Further to incident 39. Police contacted Team Leaders for further consultation & discussion. Person is still missing at this time. 0.5 Man hrs

39. 25/06/03 Search 13.54 hrs Trough of Bowland area.  The Team were called to assist Lancashire Police in a search for a vulnerable male who had gone missing. The search was stood down at 18.51 after receiving more information. SARDA (Search Dog Bracken & handler Pete, Search Dog Roy & handler Steve Garafello), ON99 (Police Helicopter) also assisted in the incident. The search was passed back to the Police to investigate further. 175 Man hrs

38. 15/06/03 Advice 14:20 hrs  Waterfoot. The Team was paged by Lancashire Ambulance Incident Support Desk to attend an incident at Cowpe Reservoir, Waterfoot. As this is not the Teams normal area of operation the call was passed to our neighbouring Team, Rossendale Pendle MRT, immediately. 0.25 Man hrs

37. 15/06/03 Safety Cover  06:00-16:00 hrs Forest of Bowland. Continuing 34 & 35.  Fortunately no incidents reported but excellent weather enjoyed by all. 80 Man hrs

36. 14/06/03 Advice 18:10 hrs Rivington. The Team was paged by Lancashire Ambulance Incident Support Desk to attend an incident at Pigeon Tower, Rivington. As this is not the Teams normal area of operation the call was passed to our neighbouring Team, Bolton MRT, immediately. 0.25 Man hrs

35. 14/06/03 Safety Cover  06:00-18:00 hrs Forest of Bowland. Continuing 34. This involved over 200 birdwatchers undertaking “moorland safaris”, river and woodland walks around the Trough of Bowland AONB. No incidents reported but the bird watching was superb with Ring Ouzel, Stonechats, Whinchats , Oystercatchers, Common sandpipers, wagtails, Merlins & Buzzards all being seen from the lawn at Smelt Mill. 96 Man hrs

34. 13/06/03 Safety Cover 16:30-18:30 hrs Forest of Bowland. Provision of fell safety cover for walks in the Langden Valley / Dunsop area & Gisburn Forest as part of the RSPB / United Utilities “Bowland Festival” event. 4 Man hrs

33. 08/06/03 Advice 02:30 hrs Chorley/Adlington. As incident 32 finished the Team Search Controllers were made aware of an ongoing incident in the Chorley/Adlington area – a report of a missing 11 year old girl. The Team resources were immediately offered to assist.  Fortunately, we were not required and the girl turned up safely soon afterwards. 0.5 Man hrs

32. 08/06/03 Search 00:19 hrs Ormskirk. Request from Lancashire Police to search for a missing female, age 38, in the Aughton area near Ormskirk. The Team assembled by 02:00 Hrs at Ormskirk Police Station and the missing person was located soon after safe & well. 30 Man hrs

31. 07/06/03 Rope Rescue 13:15 hrs Denham Quarry, Brinscall. While out climbing two Team members came across a crag fast youngster (12 year old).  Apparently, with two of his mates, they had down climbed the route “Wet” (85 ft Hard V Diff) to a grassy ledge (for a smoke !). Two of the boys had managed to scramble back to the top with the third becoming stuck. A rope was set up and a Team member abseiled down to the boy with a spare harness, he was quickly hauled to safety.  0.5 Man hrs.

30. 07/06/03 Advice 10:20 hrs Rivington. The Team was paged by Lancashire Ambulance Incident Support Desk to attend an incident in Rivington.  As this is not in our normal area of operation the call was passed to our neighbouring Team, Bolton MRT, immediately.  0.25 Man hrs

29. 15/05/03 Spot Pick Up 21.05 hrs Silverdale. Assist Lancashire Ambulance with the evacuation of a fallen climber at Trowbarrow Quarry. The climber was treated for lower arm injury and suspected spinal injuries. Evacuated to waiting county ambulance.  Police Air Support Unit assisted in the evacuation by providing over-head illumination  using their 'night sun' equipment.  36 Man hrs.

28. 14/05/03 Search 19.28 hrs Parbold. Request from Lancashire Police for an urgent search of countryside & quarries for a missing vulnerable male.  The Police Air Support Unit was re-tasked from incident 27 to assist with the incident.  20 Police Officers & SARDA (Search Dog Bracken & handler) also assisted in the incident.  The search was concluded successfully at 22.30hrs with the man being located safe but cold & needing treatment from the team Doctor.  150  Man hrs

27. 14/05/03 Search 18.41 hrs Wolf Fell Area.  Request from Lancashire Police to search for a reportedly crashed glider.  Once the Police Air Support Unit had cleared incident 28, it returned & completed the search, but found nothing.  The team was stood down at 21.41hrs.   18 Man hours

26. 14/05/03 RTA 17.40 hrs Carnforth area.  Just before incident 27 a team member administered first aid at a 2 car collision. 1 Man hrs

25. 10/05/03 Spot Pick Up 21.57 hrs. Forest of Bowland. Assist Lancashire Ambulance with evacuation of a crashed Paraglider Pilot on Parlick Pike with suspected spinal injury. Lancashire Police helicopter was also on standby to assist the team.  30 Man hrs.

24. 07/05/03 Rope Rescue 20.45 hrs. Forest of Bowland. Assist Lancashire Ambulance with evacuation of an injured man who had fallen 30ft down a steep banking.  The team were assisted by Lancashire Fire service (2 vehicles), Lancashire Fire service Rope Rescue team (3 vehicles).  15 Man hrs.

23. 27/04/03 Spot Pick Up 15.09 hrs. West Pennine Moors.  Assist Lancashire Ambulance with evacuation of a collapsed fell walker on Anglezarke Moor.  20 Man hrs

22. 24/04/03 Advice 13.51 hrs. Pendle Hill.  Assist Lancashire Ambulance with evacuation in Pendle & Rossendale area passed to their control. 2 Man hrs

21. 21/04/03 Search 05.40 hrs. Blackpool.  Request from Lancashire Police for an urgent search of countryside & woods for a missing 15 year old female.  Located safe at 09.04.  The team were assisted by SARDA & Lancashire Police  air support unit. 45 Man hrs.

20. 14/04/03 Search 09.40 hrs. Request from Lancashire Police for a search of countryside & woods for a missing male.  After talking to the Police it was decided that there was insufficient information to mount a search.  4 Man hrs.

19. 13/04/03 Spot Pick Up 16.00 hrs. Forest of Bowland.  Assist Lancashire Ambulance with evacuation of an injured Micro light pilot on Longridge Fell to Air Ambulance. 8 Man hrs.

18. 09/04/03 Spot Pick Up 19.50 hrs.   Forest of Bowland.  Assist Lancashire Ambulance with the evacuation of a Male reported to have collapsed at Jubilee Tower - Forest of Bowland, two team members in attendance prior to hand over to ambulance. 4 Man hrs.

17. 02/04/03 Search 15.10 hrs. Forest of Bowland.  Urgent call from Lancashire Police to search for an over due fell walker, Bleasdale Fell area.  The walker turned up safe as the team were deploying. 15 Man hrs.

16. 02/04/03 Spot Pick Up 14.30 hrs. West Pennine Moors.  Evacuation of an injured horse rider from Healey Nab to waiting Air Ambulance.  30 Man hrs.

15. 22/03/03 Search 20.11 hrs. Forest of Bowland.  Request from Police for an urgent Search for 2 missing walkers in the Forest of Bowland area.  As the team were deploying both turned up safe, the route had taken longer than expected.  40 Man hrs.

14. 08/03/03 Safety Cover 10.00 - 15.00 hrs.  Forest of Bowland.  Our annual safety cover for the Fiendsdale Fell race.  Fortunately there were no serious incidents to report , but everyone got an absolute soaking! 125 Man hrs

13. 03/03/03 Search 20.00 hrs. Preston. Request from Police to search for missing female.  She was located safe after 1hr searching.  20 Man hrs.

12. 02/03/03 RTA 14.40 hrs. Forest of Bowland.  While at Smelt Mill, our team base in the Forest of Bowland, we assisted Lancashire Ambulance with an RTA on our front door step!  This was also the SARDA (Search & Rescue Dog Association) national meeting weekend, hence the attendance of SARDA at this incident.  6 Man hrs.

11. 26/02/03 Search 22.20 hrs. North Lancashire.  Request from Police to search Warton Crag for a missing 73 year old, he was located cold but well at 00.15hrs.  40 Man hrs.

10. 18/02/03 Search 21.30 hrs. Blackpool.  Request from Police to search woodland for a missing elderly lady.  The lady was later located by the Police.  80 Man hours.

09. 17/02/03 Search 04.00 hrs.  North Lancashire.  Urgent request from Police to search for a missing child in the Warton Crag area.  The child was located safe by Police 20mins after we were paged, back to bed!  5 Man hrs.

08. 14/02/03 Search 18.15 hrs. West Pennine Moors.  Urgent search of Anglezarke Moor area after a Game Keeper heard cries for help, the team searched late into the night with nothing found.  We were assisted by SARDA, Bolton MRT & the Police Air Support.  240 Man hrs.

07. 12/02/03 Search 21.20 hrs. Preston.  Request from the Police to search woodland & open countryside for an elderly lady, due to incident number 06 at the same time, we requested Rossendale & Pendle team to assist.  The lady turned up safe & well.  40 Man hrs.

06. 12/02/03 Search 18.15 hrs. Lancaster. Request from the Police to search woodland & open countryside for a missing female.  The team were stood down later after the Police received information as to her possible location.  80 Man hrs.

05. 08/02/03 Spot Pick Up 15.15 hrs. West Pennine Moors.   Evacuation of an injured child with fractured ankle from a stream on Anglezarke Moor area.  40 Man hrs.

04. 25/01/03 Spot Pick Up 16.20 hrs. Forest of Bowland.  Assist Lancashire Ambulance with the stabilization of a casualty at a remote farm in Whitendale area until the arrival of the Ambulance Crew.  3 Man hrs.

03. 04/01/03 Advice 15.10 hrs. Pendle Hill.  Report of a sledging accident on Pendle Hill, incident passed to Rossendale & Pendle team. 1 Man hrs.

02. 04/01/03 Spot Pick Up 13.30 hrs. Forest of Bowland.  Evacuation of in injured person after a sledging accident on Parlick Pike to waiting Air Ambulance.  30 Man hrs.

01. 03/01/03 Search 14.00 hrs. Hambleton, Fylde Coast. Request from the Police to search woodland & open countryside for a missing male.  After completion of initial search areas the search was stopped awaiting further information from the Police.  80 Man hrs.
