Incident 027/2025
On Wednesday 30th April 2025 at 12.45 pm, the rescue Team were contacted by the North West Ambulance Service to assist with a 77-year-old male who had fallen 25 feet into gully whilst out walking in Drakehouse Wood, landing in the Brook which was containing water.
A multi-agency response was required which included the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), response Paramedics, Ambulance Paramedics and Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team.
On arrival, the casualty was in the Brook and had potential head and spinal injuries.
With the difficult location and vertical drop, a full technical rescue was carried out with a vertical lift to safety, then the casualty was evacuated across steep ground where all responders played their part.
The casualty was then transferred to the road head were further medical assessments were made and transferred by ambulance into hospital.
15 volunteers of Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue were involved in this technical rescue which took over 4 hours to complete.
