Wednesday 11th June 2025 at 11.50hrs we were contacted by our neighbours Rossendale & Pendle MRT to attend to a walker who had slipped down a very steep bank in the Whitewell area. The initial call, from Yorkshire Police was misdirected, however as this was in our operational area we took over and deployed mountain rescuers including specialist rope rescue equipment.
As we were deploying, the sad news arrived that the walker was declared deceased then another callout request came in from the North West Ambulance Service to attend to another walker who had fallen and had a potential broken leg (Incident 038/2025) near Coppull.
As we were redirected to Coppull, the team stood down this incident and Lancashire Fire and Rescue completed this sad event.
