Incident 017/2026
Wednesday evening, 23.29hrs on 6th May we were requested by Lancashire Police to search for lost persons just off Clougha Pike. The initial information received didn’t include how many people were lost, but it was thought there were 5 males who were descending from Clougha Pike summit and they were disorientated and couldn’t make their way down to the car park on Rig lane.
Using our mountain rescue technology SARLOC, we managed to position the party in the marshy part of Fell End, some distance from the car park.
We quickly gathered our resources and dispatched a fast fell party onto the fell and within 45 minutes we had located 2 lost and very cold 19 year-old males. We had found 3 other males in their car in the Rig lane car park, warm and safe.
Once we had checked over the 2 young males on the fell, we escorted them safely off the fell and repatriated them with their friends, we then updated Lancashire Police with the good news that they were all safe and they were making their own way home.
23 volunteers of Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team were involved in this rescue which took 3 hours to complete.
