Incident 008/2023

The rescue Team were requested by Lancashire Police to attend to a 57-year-old male fell runner on Sunday 29th January 2023 in the Saddle Fell area, the Trough of Bowland.

With weather conditions deteriorating the rescue Team arrived swiftly and made the casualty comfortable. Upon initial assessment of the injuries, it appeared that the elbow was potentially broken so the Team administered pain relief then used a vacuum splint to stabilise the arm.

Once all of our resources and equipment arrived on scene, the casualty was placed into our casualty bag and placed on the Bell stretcher, then he was safely evacuated off the fell to an awaiting land ambulance and transferred into their care.

29 volunteers of Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team were involved in this rescue, which took approximately 3 hours to completed.

Post incident, it has been confirmed the fell runner had a displaced comminuted fracture of left humeral head.
