Incident 028/2025
Saturday 3rd May 2025 at 1pm we were contacted by the North West Ambulance Service to attend an injured mountain biker who had fallen from his bike.
The 66-year-old male had aggravated his knee which had surgery some week ago, with a severe laceration creating an open wound.
On arrive on the Salter Fell track, north west of Slaidburn the mountain bikers party had stemmed the blood lose with a temporary bandage which we replaced after making a medical assessment.
As the wound was severe, we requested the assistance of the North West Air Ambulance for an urgent evacuation.
Once the helicopter arrived, it had flown from Manchester, we carried the casualty on our mountain rescue stretcher approximately 500 metres and handed over to the air crew and Paramedics.
We then stood down, we wish the casualty a speedy recovery and wish him well for the future.
With it being the Bank holiday weekend, we only had 12 mountain rescuers involved today and the rescue took nearly 4 hours to complete.
This was our 13th Callout in 4 weeks.
